Graduation Requirements
New York State Graduation Requirements
To graduate high school in New York State, you must take and pass the following classes and exams.
There are two levels of diplomas for graduating high school in New York State.
Class Requirements
To graduate high school, students must take the following classes:
NYS Regents Diploma Requirements
Minimum Number of Credits
English -4
Social Studies - 4
Languages other than English - 1
Visual Art, Music, Dance, and/or Theater - 1
Physical Education- participation each semester - 2
Health - .5
Electives - 3.5
TOTAL - 22
Regents Exam Requirements
Regents Diploma- a score of 65 or better is required on these Regents exams:
Additional Designations
With Honors
The “with honors” designation is added to either the Regents Diploma option for students with an average score of 90 or better on all required Regents exams.
Technical Endorsement
Students enrolled in an approved school district or BOCES career and technical education (CTE) program who successfully complete all requirements earn a technical endorsement to be affixed to their high school diplomas

Regents Exam Requirements
Regents Diploma- a score of 65 or better is required on these Regents exams:
- Comprehensive English
- Mathematics (minimum of one)
- Global History
- US History
- Science (minimum of one)
- Comprehensive English
- Mathematics (Algebra 1CC, Geometry CC and Algebra 2CC)
- Global History
- US History
- Science (one Physical and one Life science)
- Language other than English
